Triple Crown Horse Racing

One of the toughest trebles to complete in any sport, the horse racing Triple Crown has eluded many champion horses over the years. The most famous Triple Crown is that of North American thoroughbred racing where three year olds compete in three gruelling races - the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. No horse has won the Triple Crown since 1978.

The virtual horse racing version of the Triple Crown has also been out of reach. Although it only has a five year history, the quality of horses coming through has made it quite a challenge to try and even win two of the three legs. In the first year of the virtual Triple Crown series, a horse by the name of Fuji Ninja managed to steal the 2004 Kentucky Derby and the 2004 Preakness Stakes with a courageous front running performance. Running as the hot favourite in the 2004 Belmont Stakes, the gelding was unable to repeat his earlier performances and finished sixth.

To this day, the 2004 Triple Crown series is the only year that a horse has won the first two legs.

2008 Triple Crown

The 2008 Triple Crown series promises once again to be full of outstanding young horses who will graduate from this year's two year old class. Though many horses will emerge out of nowhere, of the proven two year old horses there are names such as Supernaut and Handbag Haka who will no doubt be amongst the favourites heading into their three year old season.
